She is experienced in working with individuals navigating their gender or sexual identity, or those experiencing mood distress or trauma related to their queer identity. You are safe here.
Trained in several modalities that explore and address attachment distress and trauma, Alyssa is skilled at working with client’s whose current distress, especially mood disorders (anxiety, depression), results from historical attachment injuries (e.g., problematic childhood and family experiences and relationships or traumatic events).
Alyssa enjoys providing therapy to other mental health professionals, where there can be an advanced discussion and collaborative engagement. She finds this works nicely both where the client is experienced with the same treatment approaches or coming from a different framework wanting to enhance their self-awareness with a new approach. Note this is not supervision (see supervision information here).
Alyssa is fascinated by questions around identity, meaning, and purpose. With training in existential therapy, she enjoys working with clients who want to explore and develop an authentic identity, create greater understanding of their life meaning, and develop life activities that are fulfilling. This approach is also useful for individual experiencing terminal illness and negotiating questions of mortality.
